A Set Of Three Canton Porcelain Bowls With Gilt Bronze Mounts – China, 19th Century

An important and rare set comprising a large central bowl and two accompanying bowls, made of polychrome Chinese porcelain known as Canton porcelain, richly decorated with palace scenes, figures, and landscapes within finely framed reserves.

Each piece is elegantly mounted in finely chased and openwork gilt bronze, with geometric and Orientalist-inspired designs, resting on an ornate base. The stylized handles lend the set a remarkable monumental and decorative presence. This type of set, made for export to Europe in the second half of the 19th century, perfectly reflects the taste for chinoiserie and the Napoleon III style, highly prized by the bourgeoisie and grand residences of the period.
