"Francois Maury 1861-1933...large Still Life With Impressionist Bouquet Of Flowers"
A large and beautiful Impressionist painting, from the late 19th or early 20th century, depicting a luminous still life with a bouquet of flowers that subtly plays on chiaroscuro effects. The work is signed by the Marseilles painter François Maury (1861-1933), an excellent artist to whom the Bénézit dictionary devotes a significant chapter and whose biography can be found on Wikipedia. He studied at the Marseilles School of Fine Arts, where he won first prizes in painting and drawing in 1880, and the following year the Jules Cantini Prize. He continued his artistic training in Paris at the renowned Académie Julian, and exhibited from 1885 to 1905 at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he was a member, and at the famous Salon d'Automne in Paris. Values and auction prices: the value of his paintings varies according to their quality and subject matter, but also according to current demand; his record price is over €13,000. A prize was awarded in 1999 for a painting entitled "La Belle Odalisque," and among his other results are more than forty auction sales between €1,000 and €5,200 / Source: ArtPrice. Note: François Maury's works are held in the museums of Toulon and Marseille, notably the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Musée Cantini, which owns no fewer than twenty of his works.
