Big sculpture depicting "Orpheus Lulling Cerberus to Sleep" by the French sculptor Henri Peinte (Cambrai 1845 - Paris 1912).
This work was exhibited at the Salon of 1887; a large-scale version is now in the Musée d'Orsay.
Henri Peinte studied under Duret, Guillaume, and Cavelier at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Awarded a prize at the 1889 Universal Exhibition, he produced works related to mythology. This bronze sculpture is of good size and has a beautiful patina.
