She wears the typical high-waisted dress, cinched under the bust, in keeping with the fashion popularized by Empress Josephine, the Emperor's first wife. This white dress is complemented by an elegantly draped red shawl. The delicately modeled face testifies to the meticulous craftsmanship characteristic of bourgeois portraiture of this era.
