Empire-style Pedestal Table In Mahogany And Gilt Bronze, With A Black Marble Top Veined With White – Early 19th Century
An elegant Empire period side table, early 19th century, resting on a slender tripod base of added wood. The circular top of black marble veined with white, 35 cm in diameter, is encircled by a twisted gilt-bronze gallery, bringing the total diameter to 41 cm. This contrast between the dark marble and the gilding lends the piece a refined and highly decorative presence. The apron is embellished with a finely chased gilt-bronze frieze decorated with stylized palmettes and foliage, typical of the neo-classical vocabulary of the Empire period. The three uprights are adorned with vertical gilt-bronze plaques, terminating in original bronze sabots. The underside of the piece, visible in the photographs, attests to its age, with traditional joinery, antique screws, and a sound structure. The marble is antique, perfectly fitted, and the overall patina is uniform and authentic. This pedestal is ideal for displaying a bust, sculpture, vase, or other art object, and will easily find its place in a classic or contemporary interior. Period: Early 19th century – Empire period. Materials: Added wood, gilt bronze, black marble with white veining. Dimensions: Height: 84 cm; Marble diameter: 35 cm; Total diameter including gallery: 41 cm.
