Beautiful pair of baluster-shaped vases in brass with cloisonné enamel decoration on a deep blue ground, Chinese work from the mid-20th century.
The finely executed decoration depicts large purple peonies, a symbol of wealth and prosperity in Chinese culture, with a bird in flight among stylized floral scrolls. The background is entirely decorated with a geometric lattice pattern made of brass wires, characteristic of Beijing cloisonné work.
The flared necks are decorated with stylized friezes in turquoise, green and white tones. The interiors are covered with turquoise enamel.
The interior and the base are covered with turquoise enamel, indicating careful workmanship.”
