Rosewood Tilting Table, Tilting Top, England, Mid-19th Century, Center Table
An oval pedestal table in rosewood and rosewood veneer, English manufacture from the mid-19th century. Our table rests on a four-legged base, each leg ending in an elegant scroll. The central column supports the tilting top. The top is initially held to the base by two large screws (photo 11). To tilt it, a simple pull tab lifts the top (photo 11), which can then be held upright without risk of falling back down by means of a simple wedge that can be lifted or lowered to return the top to the horizontal position (photo 12). Our pedestal table is in good used condition. The base is in very good condition; only the top shows wear, namely some probable water stains and inevitable cracking across the veneer (photo 10).
