"Important Dining Table Forming A Games Table, Gueridon, England, Mid 20th Century"
Very large round table forming a games table in veneered and inlaid wood, England, mid-20th century. With an unusual diameter (182cm), our table rests on a quadripod base. Four fluted columns are connected to each other by a square-shaped crotch shelf, itself resting on four finely inlaid legs ending in gilded brass shoes on casters. The top of our table is remarkably worked in burl curling and forms a superb radiant pattern. This table is ideal for 8 to 10 guests. A major asset of our furniture, a thick removable top of very good quality covered with a green velvet carpet was custom-made to allow this dining room table to be transformed in an instant into a huge games table. This top is in two parts, each folding into a wallet on itself (see photos), thus taking up very little space once stored. Our table, as well as its game board, are both in very good condition. They obviously have some small wear (rubbed clogs, small scattered traces of use, etc.) as well as some very well-made veneer grafts (see photos). Finally, the top of our piece of furniture can be separated from its base, easily, thus a possible transport or change of piece) by means of a very simple set of four gilded brass lag screws (see last photo). A piece of furniture as elegant as it is original.
