Important Neo-Gothic Reliquary-Chapel in Gilt Bronze, 19th Century - Paris.
Architectural reliquary of the chapel type, in gilt bronze and glass, executed in the Neo-Gothic style in the 19th century. The structure replicates the elevation of a Gothic church with trefoil arches, pinnacles, buttresses, and a summit cross. The whole rests on a molded quadripod base.
Description:
Inside, under glass, are displayed five relics ex ossibus of saints and martyrs, carefully arranged on a reddish-brown textile background. The relics are held by crossed red silk threads and sealed on the reverse by an intact episcopal seal of red wax, guaranteeing their inviolability.
The saints identified by period handwritten labels are:
S. Claudius M. (Saint Claude, Martyr),
S. Dioscorus M. (Saint Dioscorus, Martyr),
S. Benignus M. (Saint Benignus, Martyr),
B. Franciscus M. (Blessed Francis, Martyr).
Gabrielis M. (Blessed Gabriel, Martyr)
The reliquary is accompanied by its original Letter of Authenticity (Litteræ Authenticæ), issued by the Archdiocese of Paris and signed by the Cardinal Archbishop.
A very beautiful object for private devotion or collection, representative of 19th-century historicist religious production, combining decorative quality, legibility of the relics, and original documentation.
