"Tripod Scent Pot In Gilt And Patinated Bronze, France, First Half Of The 19th Century, Circa 1"
An elegant scent pot resting on a gilt bronze tripod base with curved uprights adorned with finely chiseled rams' heads, a motif from the early 19th-century Neo-Classical repertoire. The green patinated bronze dome is surmounted by an openwork lid decorated with vegetal scrolls, topped with a pine cone, a symbolic element frequently used in scented and decorative objects of this period. The whole is mounted on a triangular base of veined red marble (griotte type), ensuring stability and decorative contrast. The antique construction, assembled with hand-shaped screws, as well as the overall design of the object, suggest that it was made before industrial standardization, in the first half of the 19th century. The interior shows traces of old fragrant resin, attesting to its original use as a scent pot for diffusing room fragrances, without an integrated heating device, in accordance with the domestic practices of the time. A refined decorative object, combining quality chiseling, mercury gilding and careful patina, characteristic of early 19th century French ornamental productions.
