Gilt-bronze Inkwell From The Charles X Period
Gilt-bronze inkwell from the Charles X period, 19th century, of French origin. It has a rectangular tray shape with two large handles on either side. In the center is a small compartment with a lid, surmounted by a bronze cast depicting a kneeling female figure, a "Greek Goddess." On either side are two cut crystal inkwells with lids, and on the front and back are compartments that serve as pen holders. It features elegant and beautiful workmanship on both the rim and the handles, with scrolls, curls, and shells, and is supported by four small feet, also all worked.
