"Two Amygdalotomes By Charrière, Circa 1850"
A pair of amygdalotomes signed by Charrière, circa 1850-1860: - A fine, well-preserved example of a classic French amygdalotome of the Velpeau type, based on the Fahnestock model which Velpeau modified/improved. The instrument is signed Charrière and datable to around 1850. It is a double-forked model with three rings and a lovely little guilloché ebony handle. The instrument is rust-free and in perfect working order. It measures 30 cm in length. - A fine example of a Charrière amygdalotome with a pistol-grip handle and trigger. The trigger is folding and the handle is detachable. This model was developed from the 1850s onwards. It is in perfect working order and measures 24 cm in length.
