Roman imperial, 2nd century A.D.
This delicate gold ring is set with an authentic Roman intaglio carved in rich red jasper, depicting an eagle in flight, alighting upon a tree branch with wings majestically spread.
The eagle held profound significance in ancient Rome as the supreme symbol of Jupiter, king of the gods, and as the emblem of imperial power. Carried as the aquila standard by the Roman legions, it represented strength, victory, and divine protection. Such intaglios were worn as powerful talismans by soldiers, officials, and citizens alike.
The minimalist gold band allows the ancient gem to take centre stage, offering a wearable connection to the might and grandeur of Imperial Rome.
Condition: Minor chips to the edge; wear marks consistent with age.
