19th Century Octagonal Marquetry Glove Box, Napoleon III Period
Octagonal marquetry glove box, veneered in thuya burl, rosewood, ebony, and lemonwood on a green oak background. Domed top with marquetry on all sides. Beautiful original varnish. Original interior in salmon-colored moiré silk (heavily stained but original). Solid thuya ball foot. Lock and key in working order. Label under the box (to the benevolent Gnessaux, 39 rue du Bac, Paris).
