Hector Giacomelli (1822–1904) – “flock Of Birds” – Large Signed 19th-century Watercolor

Artist: Hector Giacomelli

An elegant original watercolor signed by Hector Giacomelli, a renowned 19th-century French painter, watercolorist, and illustrator, known for his remarkable depictions of the avian world.

This panoramic composition depicts a flock of passerines delicately perched on a branch. Each bird is rendered with great observational finesse and a subtle palette of blues, ochres, grays, and browns, in the naturalistic style for which the artist is renowned.

The work is signed in the lower right corner and bears an old handwritten label on the reverse reading “Giacomelli – Bande d’oiseaux,” attesting to its historical identification. It is presented in its beautiful late 19th-century carved gilded wooden frame.

Hector Giacomelli exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon beginning in the 1850s and gained an international reputation thanks to his illustrations for books on birds, notably *Nos Oiseaux*. His work, at the intersection of art and natural history, is highly sought after today for the quality of his drawing and the timeless charm of his compositions.

A few age spots are visible on the paper, but they do not detract from the enjoyment of this decorative and iconic work by the artist.

Dimensions:

  • Frame: 83 × 54 cm
  • Watercolor: 47 × 16 cm

An original composition, rare for its panoramic format and particularly decorative, ideal for a cabinet of curiosities, a library, or a collection dedicated to 19th-century animal art.
