Antoine Bofill – Young Crab Fisherman – Bronze, Cast By Léon Virlet, Circa 1900

Small bronze bust signed by Bofill, depicting a young boy fishing, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, in a naturalistic composition featuring a crab among the rocks and marine vegetation at the base.

Beautiful dual brown and green patina, with warm caramel tones on the face and clothing, contrasting with the darker, greenish areas of the base.

The bronze bears the signature “Bofill,” the number 2367, and the circular stamp “Bronze garanti au titre L.V. déposée” (Guaranteed bronze, registered L.V. standard), corresponding to the bronze casters Léon Virlet.

Beautiful quality of casting and chiseling, particularly evident in the rendering of the face, hat, clothing, and crab.
