Antique Engraving Enhanced With Watercolor, “la Petite Curieuse” – Carved And Gilded Wooden Frame

An elegant antique engraving enhanced with watercolor depicting “La Petite Curieuse,” after Jean-Jacques Rousseau (Rousseau del.), engraved by Alexandre Chaponnier (Chaponnier sculp.), a renowned figure in late 18th-century French engraving.

The print is delicately hand-colored, lending this composition a charm reminiscent of a miniature. It is presented in a beautiful 19th-century carved and gilded wooden frame, adorned with Renaissance-inspired rosettes and friezes. The reverse side retains its original label from the Parisian gilder and framer G. Amaury, located at 62 rue La Boétie in Paris, a specialist in carved wooden frames.

The piece makes a stunning decorative statement, whether in a classic interior or as part of a collection of antique engravings.

Some foxing and signs of age are visible on the paper, as well as slight wear from use on the frame’s gilding, though these do not detract from the elegance of the piece as a whole.
