Vase In Longwy Earthenware With Cloisonné Decoration And Elephant Handles - Art Deco, Circa 1920
Elegant glazed earthenware vase from the Manufacture de Longwy, of baluster form, with rich polychrome cloisonné decoration on an ivory and cobalt blue crackle background. This piece is distinguished by its remarkable handles in the shape of stylized elephant heads and trunks, inspired by the orientalist and exotic taste particularly sought after during the Art Deco period.
The decoration, hand-executed using the famous Longwy cloisonné enamel technique, combines geometric friezes, floral scrolls and Far Eastern-inspired motifs in a dazzling palette of blues, greens, reds and turquoise. The deep blue background, characteristic of the manufacture, admirably highlights the finesse of the enamel work.
The reverse bears the Faïencerie de Longwy stamp and a handwritten reference to the decoration.
