Jean-François-Théodore Gechter (1795-1844) was a highly regarded French sculptor of the Romantic period, primarily known for his bronze works on historical and mythological themes. He was born on December 15, 1795, in Paris. He studied under renowned artists, including François-Joseph Bosio and Antoine-Jean Gros. He primarily worked in bronze, specializing in dynamic, often dramatic compositions that reflected the spirit of the times. He died in Paris on December 11, 1844. Among his major works are "The Battle of Austerlitz" (a bas-relief on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris) and the Rhine-Rhône Fountain in the Place de la Concorde, created in Paris between 1835 and 1840.
