Object description :

"Pair Of Black Glaze Vases, Nishiura Enji (1856-1914), Yokohama, Japan, Meiji Era."
Pair of interesting vases with black glaze. The hand-painted decoration likely represents Rakans, or Buddhist monks who have achieved enlightenment and continue to teach. The thick overglaze painting is complemented by a discreet and delicate gold decoration.

Nishiura Enji (1856-1914). Yokohama, Japan, Meiji era. Signed: 西浦陶器店製 - made by Nishiura Ceramics Shop.

Height 25.5 cm.

The state of conservation of one of the vases is very good, that of the other is good, with a crack on the bottom.
