Pair Of Shepherds, Silvered Bronze, H. Varnier, France, 19th-20th Century.
Artist: H. Varnier,
This silvered bronze sculpture depicts a pair of shepherds. The scene is sentimental and protective: the adult (probably a female dog) is lying in an alert yet relaxed posture, while a small puppy is visible at her side. The artist has rendered the animals' anatomy with great precision: one can see the taut muscles, the texture of the coat (especially on the nape of the neck and tail), and the details of the muzzles and paws.
