Object description :

"Double Figure Of The Virgin Mary, Carved Wood, Southern Germany (bavaria), Late 18th Century "
Double figure of the Virgin Mary, carved wood, polychrome and gilt, probably Munich, late 18th century. A rare back-to-back representation: the Virgin in prayer and the Virgin and Child, uniting the roles of Mother of God and mediator. Late Munich Baroque style: animated drapery, idealized faces, the whiteness of the wood enhanced with gilding. The Christ Child holds the globe, symbol of Christ's universal sovereignty. A processional or devotional figure, with unusual and remarkable iconography. In its original condition.
