The animal painting with a fox and two hares was created by the renowned German animal and landscape painter Anton Weinberger (1843 Munich - 1912 Wiesbaden).
The artist studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts from 1860, worked as a drawing teacher in Leipzig and Saint Petersburg (1872), and then studied in Berlin under Paul Meyerheim. In 1884, he lived in Vienna, where he worked as a court painter (portraits of dogs), then until 1888 in Munich, and until 1902 in Wiesbaden. His works are found in various noble collections, including those at Gera Castle, the Hummelshain Hunting Lodge in Kahla, and the museums of Mainz and Wiesbaden.
