A Marquetry Side Table In Precious Woods, Napoleon III Period – Mid-19th Century
This Napoleon III period console table is an exceptional piece, crafted with remarkable care in the tradition of 19th-century furniture art. It is entirely inlaid with precious woods such as rosewood, palisander, and elm burl, which lend it visual richness and depth of tone. The top is surmounted by a white Carrara marble slab, whose rounded front corners soften the table's silhouette. The front opens with a central door, magnificently inlaid with a bouquet of flowers in light and stained wood. This floral motif, delicately inlaid on a lozenge-patterned background, is framed by friezes and moldings, attesting to refined cabinetmaking. The interior, made of speckled maple, features two adjustable shelves on racks. Above this door, there is another floral marquetry design set on a meticulously crafted veneer. The uprights of the piece are made up of fluted, detached columns, evoking classical architectural styles and reinforcing the noble character of the piece. Finally, the piece rests on ball feet, ensuring both stability and harmonious proportions. This piece perfectly embodies the taste of the Second Empire and integrates ideally into a classic or eclectic interior, where it will bring a touch of history and refinement. *********Period: Mid-19th century.
