"Silvered Bronze Planter, Victor Saglier, Art Nouveau – Late 19th Century"
Belle Époque silver-plated bronze planter with scrollwork. This oval centerpiece rests on four feet and has two openwork handles. Note the presence of the hallmark of Master Goldsmith Victor SAGLIER under the planter. The latter also has a small removable silver-plated basin. Known for his Art Nouveau style work, Victor Saglier (1809-1894) created several pieces for Louis Majorelle, Daum, and Émile Gallé. He often drew inspiration from nature for his work. The sign of master goldsmith Victor Saglier is an oval-shaped three-masted sailing ship surrounded by the letters V and S. Saglier made everyday objects such as glass vases, bowls and pitchers with metal mounts, planters, tea and coffee sets, and bronze or silver-plated candlesticks. Upon his death, the Victor Saglier company at 12 rue d'Enghien in Paris became Saglier Frères. It was run by his brothers Eugène and André until his death in 1948.********Period: Late 19th century.
