Pallasch Prussian Cuirassier Strong-sword 1710-1720

This beautiful, heavy sword is a Prussian cuirassier officer's "pallasch," model 1710-1720. (It is illustrated in Bezdek's book "German Swords & Sword Makers"). The silhouette of this weapon is very similar to the Russian dragoon model of 1720. This model is very rare on the market. It was replaced from 1732 onwards by the well-known model with a shell guard bearing the Prussian coat of arms. Very few of these heavy swords have retained their scabbards.
A few months ago, I offered this sword for sale, which I had not yet precisely identified, along with its original scabbard, some metal parts of which were missing. As I was not satisfied with leaving it incomplete, I withdrew it from sale. After extensive research in Germany, I was able to formally identify the model and acquire the missing metal parts. I can now present this beautiful pallasch, complete once again, in excellent condition.
BLADE: It is double-edged. After a very short ricasso, it has a flattened hexagonal cross-section (with worn edges) for 13 cm, then a wide fuller replaces the central face up to the point, highlighted by two thin lateral fullers. On each face are decorative motifs typical of the 18th century, somewhat worn.
Blade length = 86.5 cm, Width near the ricasso = 3.7 cm, Thickness at the ricasso = 7.8 mm.
GUARD: It is a brass guard with a double bridge, therefore with two guard shells and two quillons, known as the "Swedish" style. A main guard branch joins the pommel to which it is fixed by a screw. Two secondary branches that merge into one complete the guard by joining the main branch. A strong thumb ring on the inner side completes the guard.
Pommel: It is solid, eight-faceted, and surmounted by a strong button to which the blade's tang is riveted.
Grip: It is spool-shaped, made of wood covered with twisted brass wire. The brass ferrules are present and in very good condition.
Scabbard: It is made of wood covered in red velvet. The scabbard opening, the intermediate piece, the chape, and the cut-out splints are made of brass. A symmetrical iron spike completes the chape. This type of scabbard with wavy splints is also found on Hungarian and Polish saber scabbards of the same period. It was probably a choice of the officer who carried this weapon. According to the documents (unfortunately incomplete) that I have been able to consult, it would seem that only the guard and, to a lesser extent, the blade were subject to clearly established regulations.
