Jacques Dartis: Rare 18th Century French Solid Silver Platter, Montpellier, 1775
Artist: Jacques Dartis
Rare 18th-century solid silver round platter with a bordered pattern. Monogrammed on the back edge "II" (see photo). Hallmarks of the Montpellier jurisdiction (crowned N) and discharge (two crossed laurel branches) from 1775-81, the Montpellier town hall mark for 1775 ("MPL" for Montpellier surmounted by a crowned "&"), and the hallmark of silversmith Jacques Dartis, registered in 1764. A rare, large 18th-century round platter in very good condition and remarkably hallmarked, with a beautiful patina and minor scratches from use. For the discerning collector...
