Jean-Baptiste Berlot (1775-1836), Monks Praying in a Church, 1824. Probably the Abbey of Le Breuil in Normandy, a place Berlot depicted on several occasions. A student of Hubert Robert, Berlot specialized in views of picturesque buildings and, from 1820, the year this painting was executed, turned to representations of medieval architecture, most often in small formats. The period frame, currently being restored, and the stretcher bear numerous inventory numbers. Signed lower left. Oil on canvas and original stretcher. 24 x 19 cm. Very good condition.
