Study of a saint holding a palm, probably for a procession.
Hippolyte Flandrin produced numerous studies for church decorations, notably cortèges of saints, as at Saint-Vincent-de-Paul in Paris. A study very similar to ours is in the Metropolitan Museum (1986.335).
