The Carrying of the Cross in carved oak, altarpiece group. On the right, Christ carries the Cross, bent under its weight, while a soldier, in a contorted posture (note the torso-like position of the soldier's right leg), pulls a lock of his hair, his right foot resting on one of his legs. On the left, Simon of Cyrene relieves Jesus by lifting the trunk. The soldier's picturesque attire includes a winged helmet, chainmail, and knee guards in the shape of foliate florets. Brabant, circa 1510. Height, 33 cm, width, 24 cm.
