LUXURY OFFICER'S SWORD, First Empire. 32782. Finely cast and chased gilt bronze hilt in the style of Nicola Boutet's designs. Single-branch guard decorated with laurel leaves and an eagle's head in a medallion on each side. Curved quillon decorated with a flower. Openwork shield-shaped guard decorated with a helmeted Minerva head encircled by a laurel wreath; on either side of this central motif are depicted water lilies and flowers. The guard is bordered with a molding of laurel leaves and flowers. Quatrefoil pommel decorated with an owl, an antique helmet, and flowers. Wooden grip with mother-of-pearl scales and gilt brass side rails with oak branches. Ferrules decorated with water leaves and laurel branches. Triangular blade signed "IGB", engraved and gilded on its first third with military trophies, floral decorations, and a civic crown, on a blued background, 86.1 cm long. Remnant of a scarlet cloth necktie. France. First Empire. Very good condition, slight oxidation on the blade. No scabbard.
