Full dress cartridge box and sabretache for an officer of the Imperial Guard Guides, second model 1857, Second Empire. 33003 Cartridge box. Leather bandolier entirely covered in waxed morocco leather and covered in green velvet (5 cm wide) covered on its outer side with a braid of the same width in silver passementerie with three dark green silk borders. This banner is decorated with five silver-plated metal fittings: a rectangular buckle, a loop, a shield-shaped plaque, and an oval radiant sun decorated in its center with an uncrowned imperial eagle surmounted by a large crown of the Guides. These last two elements are linked together by two curb chains. The case is the first model, 1853, made of wood covered in dark green waxed morocco leather lined with green velvet, with silvered sides framed by a chased molding. The case is 7.2 cm high and has a maximum width of [width missing]. 14 cm, minimum width 12 cm. Rectangular, slightly trapezoidal flap (H 8.7 cm, width at the top 15.8 cm, width at the bottom 16.57 cm) in leather lined with green waxed morocco, covered with a gilt copper plate bordered by a silver-plated metal strip (8 mm wide) embossed with oak leaf branches linked by knotted ribbons. The center is decorated with a radiant sun in silver-plated metal (H 6.8 cm, width 14 cm). Two gilt brass ornaments are affixed to this sun: a sandblasted "N" (H 2.2 cm, width 2.2 cm) surmounted by the imperial crown of the Guides (H 5.5 cm, width 6.1 cm). SABRETACHE. Leather sabretache, flap covered in green cloth and edged with a 3.2 cm wide gold braid. The center is decorated with a gilt brass plaque stamped with the imperial coat of arms. The plaque is 17 cm high and 12 cm wide. A gold braid is folded over the outer edges. The interior is lined with green waxed leather with a black cloth-lined pocket. It is 28.5 cm high (excluding the rings), 17.7 cm wide at the top, and 26 cm wide at the bottom. The belt, with its suspension straps, is made of green waxed leather (3.2 cm wide) covered with gold braid and edged in green silk piping. It has silver-plated metal buckles with hooks for carrying a sword. It is complete with its five suspension straps, each covered with gold braid and edged in green silk piping. The three buckles on the sabretache straps are silver-plated metal, while the two buckles on the sword suspension straps are gilt brass. France. Second Empire. Very good condition, with some oxidation of the trimmings. NOTE: On this example, the box of the 1st model 1953 with gilt trim has been retained, only the banner of the second model 1857 with silver fittings has been replaced.
