Refined French oil lamp from the second half of the 19th century, crafted in the eclectic style of the Napoléon III period, with strong Rococo Revival influences. The piece stands out for its richgilded bronze mount and the harmonious fusion of materials, shapes, and colors. The lamp is intact and non-electrified, retaining all itsoriginal features—a rare condition today for this type of lamp, often converted in the 20th century.
The lamp consists of a frosted glass globe decorated with adelicate star pattern, typical of late-19th-century production, from which emerges the clear glass chimney, a functional and characteristic element of authentic oil lamps.
The central reservoir, made of glazed ceramic, features a soft blue gradient base adorned with a delicate polychrome floral decoration in shades of pink, green, and gold, harmonizing beautifully with the painted ceramic component.
Framing and enhancing the reservoir is amagnificent gilded bronze structure, designed in the Rococo Revival style: finely chiseled volutes, acanthus leaves, and tendrils envelop the ceramic with fluid, theatrical movement. At the base of thecentral body are three imposing griffin figures, modeled with remarkable anatomical accuracy and intricate detail in their feathersand chiseled surfaces. These elements, typical of Napoléon III eclecticism, give the lamp a striking sculptural presence.
The composition is completed with a ceramic and gilded bronze base, harmoniously aligned with the main body and perfectly balanced in proportion.
A lamp of strong aesthetic character, decorative, dramatic, and rare in original condition, ideal for collectors, classical interiors, period furniture, or carefully curated displays.
