The work represents a sculptural group with strong narrative tension and a pyramidal composition: at the center stands a heroic male figure, captured in a defensive pose while holding a broken sword in his right hand, a symbol of extreme resistance. At his feet, a woman and child cling to him for protection, completing the allegory of the preservation of family and domestic values. The attention to anatomical detail and the dramatic rendering of expressions are typical of French academic sculpture of the period.
The circular base bears the artist's engraved signature, "E. BOISSEAU," while the front features a brass plaque bearing the work's title and the words "Médaille d'Honneur," commemorating the prestigious award received at the Paris Salon. This bronze model is a scaled-down version of the famous marble monument erected in the Square d'Ajaccio in Paris.
