Refined Dutch cylinder secrétaire from the second half of the 18th century, executed in Neoclassical style with pronounced French Louis XVI influences. The piece stands out for the excellence of the woods employed and the high quality of its craftsmanship, representing the finest North European cabinetmaking of the period.

The exterior is veneered in fine flame mahogany, characterised by deep, vibrant grain, and enriched with an elegant classical decorative repertoire in light woods: medallions depicting vases, ribbons, festoons and geometric stringing, present on both the front and the sides (please note that one side shows a crack, which can be professionally restored in full respect of the original materials). Carved details and small gilt-bronze mounts on the uprights further enhance the overall structure.

Below the cylinder are three large drawers, also finely veneered and inlaid, fitted with original bronze handles and escutcheons. The secrétaire rests on elegant low fluted truncated pyramidal feet, a characteristic form of the late 18th – early 19th century.

When the cylinder is opened, it reveals a highly charming interior cabinet, with visible mahogany surfaces and an interior structure in oak, the traditional wood of the Dutch school. The interior architecture is rich and theatrical, featuring curved side drawers and open compartments that create a pleasing fluid and dynamic rhythm, centred by an inlaid rosette and accented with small inlaid and crossbanded columns.

The contrast between the sober Neoclassical linearity of the exterior and the lively, articulated interior—hallmark of the finest Dutch production of the 18th century—imbues this piece with remarkable charm, making it ideally suited for elegant interiors, studies, libraries or prestigious collections of antique furniture.
