Statue Of Ludovico De Luigi

Ludovico De Luigi’s bronze sculpture depicts a faun captured in a distinctly dynamic and asymmetrical pose. The figure is playing a long wind instrument, similar to a flute, which he holds emphatically aloft with both hands. His bearded face is topped by a distinctive, floppy headdress, to which a theatrical mask is attached, positioned on his forehead and resting just above his eyes. His naked body reveals well-defined and meticulously rendered musculature, particularly evident in the anatomical depiction of his back. The figure is only partially draped by a cloth tied around the waist, which flows smoothly down the leg before settling and gathering on the flat rectangular base of the work. Finally, the sculptor’s signature, “L. De Luigi,” and the foundry’s mark, “VENTURI ARTE,” are clearly engraved on the surface of the base.
