"Beautiful Charles X Decorated Porcelain Clock "the Chi Nois Hunter" Attributed To Jacob Petit. "
A rare and beautiful ornamental porcelain clock from Paris, depicting "The Chinois Hunter" and his dog flushing out wild geese. Set on its removable, fitted base decorated with friezes and birds on cherry branches (a small, insignificant chip at one corner), a fire-breathing dragon, and coral acanthus scrolls; this remarkable piece, attributed to Jacob-Petit, is set within a nature scene of tender green reeds and very elegant violet-toned foliage; a Chinois hunter in his fine attire and hat, brandishing a spear, observes a wild goose and its offspring in a hollow of water leaves on rocks by a riverbank. His faithful dog will flush them out, and attentive to the reaction of this fine game, he waits, arm raised on the spear, his left arm concealed on the promontory, ready for action... This clock, from the very beginning of the 19th century, decorated with fresh colors on hard-paste porcelain with a beautiful "scenic" scene, is a quality piece with a Parisian pendulum and key movement, in working order; the Roman numerals on the dial are indicated by slender blued steel hands on a silvered guilloché bronze dial encircled by gilt bronze... A beautiful, elegant, and decorative piece in good condition
