A rare complete set of Comte de Buffon's study of mammals, published by the Royal Printing Office in 13 volumes in duodecimo, from the library of the Marquis de Verneuil (1720-1791), Grand Cupbearer of France and Introducer of French Ambassadors to the King; a figure close to Louis XV and Louis XVI. These handsome books are center-bound with the Marquis de Verneuil's coat of arms, in a fresh, mottled, glazed blond calf binding, with raised bands and gilt tooling in the red and olive morocco title and volume compartments. The covers also feature the Marquis de Verneuil's coat of arms in the center, marbled endpapers, and red edges.
