Limited edition of 300 copies on white laid vellum. Unnumbered copy, exceptionally extra-illustrated with 12 original signed watercolors (267 x 210 mm to 340 x 248 mm): preparatory drawings for cover and pp. 14, 19, 26, 63, and 66 illustrations, large compositions some captured on the spot by Fouqueray.
Documentary watercolors: one bears legend "à bord du 302", another "croquis exécuté à bord du 342 qui a servi à l'illustration du 'Révolté' de Larrouy, avec les seuls moyens du bord - sur une feuille de buvard ! 10 oct 1917".
Edition illustrated with 79 watercolors by Charles Fouqueray, reproduced in phototype by Vigier and Brunissen and stencil-colored by Eugène Charpentier.
Renowned naval illustrator: Charles Fouqueray (Le Mans, 1869 - Paris, 1956). Rejected from Naval Academy, twice disappointed in hope of being appointed official painter of Navy, finally obtained title in 1908. Travels in colonies then Middle East infusing Orientalist inspiration. President of Société coloniale des artistes français, founder of Société des beaux-arts de la mer. Illustrator for Kieffer of second maritime fresco, The Mutiny of the Elsinore (Jack London, 1934). Had already illustrated for Société des Amis du livre moderne Larrouy's L'Odyssée d'un transport torpillé (1923).
