Exceptional Victorian illumination depicting the words "Christ" and "God" side by side with religious iconography.

Initial C: The Good Shepherd (John 10:1-42) - The haloed Christ holding a staff and a lamb, walking along a forest with a palm tree in the distance. Christ and the lamb gaze at each other.

Initial D: Jesus at Gethsemane (Matthew 26:36-46) - Jesus kneeling in prayer with hands crossed on his chest, sweat flowing from his forehead, facing a chalice.

On the reverse, partially printed label: "No. 67. / ILLUMINATED / BY / O. J. Abrams, / August 1878, / (Holder of Art Certificates), / TOTTENHAM, LONDON."

Mysterious artist: no biographical information or other known production by this London illuminator holding art certificates. Unique and singular work in Victorian English production.
