Oil on wood panel, signed lower left, titled on the back and countersigned: BARGES ON THE MEUSE / DORDRECHT / HOLLAND.
Dimensions without frame: 21 x 27 cm.

In its original frame and in very good condition.

After studying at the École nationale des beaux-arts, his pictorial world focused primarily on landscapes. He first found them in Normandy, then in Brittany, Provence, and Tunisia, for the most part. Upon his return, he entered the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and then, from 1925, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, notably a large canvas representing the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel, now exhibited at the Museum of Art and History of Granville. In 1937, he was appointed a member of the jury of the International Exhibition of Arts and Techniques and in 1947, general commissioner of the 58th Salon des Indépendants, and in 1953, he founded the Association for the Diffusion of Graphic and Plastic Arts. He was also named a Knight of the Legion of Honour, for Fine Arts, and a member of the National Society of Fine Arts. Appointed a Knight of Arts and Letters in 1958 and an Officer of the Legion of Honour in 1963, he died on February 27, 1976, in his apartment on Boulevard du Montparnasse.
