Triptych By Leopold Van Hende
Triptych by Leopold Van Hende
Oil on panel, this work is firmly in the tradition of classic European surrealism, largely echoing the elongated, spindly forms and dreamlike, arid plains popularized by masters such as Salvador Dalí
The use of thin, flowing, root-like vertical lines, on the three panels creates a strong thematic unity, harmoniously blending human anatomy with nature and skeletal structures
The art of Leopold Van Hende (1924-2005) flourishes in two directions, both stemming from the same personality. On the one hand, there are the realistic representations, urban landscapes and rural scenes that characterized his youthful period; on the other, there is the surreal and symbolic work of his later period, thanks to which he made a name for himself in the art world
