Pewter mustard pot in the shape of a small barrel with a domed lid surmounted by a spinning top; it has a curved and molded thumb rest.
Control mark with a crowned L used during the tenure of Claude Lamperrière de Saint Aubin, from 1741.
Incompletely applied mark of François Laine, received as a master in 1736: ETIN FIN / F. LAINE / Saint-François / (1736).
Height: 9.4 cm.
PARIS, Mid-18th century.
Note the correspondence between the symbol of the hallmark depicting Saint Francis and the first name of the master.
Rare small piece of pewterwork in very good condition; a reinforcement of the lid's tab is noted and indicated by an arrow in one of the photographs.
Bibliography: "Les étains de Paris" (The Pewter of Paris), an exceptional work by my colleagues Ph. Boucaud and M. Schonn.
