The metal box is lacquered black with gold detailing and contains the original wig stand, also made of black lacquered metal. The manufacturer's name is printed on the inside of the lid: ‘Ravenscroft Law. Wig & Robe Makers. Lincolns Inn. London’.
Ravenscroft was founded in 1689, is still in business today, and is the official supplier of dresses to Her Majesty the Queen.
Condition: Overall condition is excellent: the wig and stand are magnificent. The box shows some signs of wear on the paintwork and a few small marks and superficial scratches, but nothing serious. Overall, it is clean and well maintained, and the hinge is sturdy.
The whole thing is over 100 years old and has been used over the years, so some signs of wear are to be expected.
