Object description :

"Victorian Lawyer's Wig And Ravenscroft Carrying Case, 19th Century"
A magnificent example of a Victorian lawyer's wig, preserved in its original case. The wig is made from horsehair and is of exceptional quality. It has a label sewn inside that reads "Patentee. Ravenscroft. 1‘ and a second label on which the owner's name would have been written. The wig is of traditional design, with two tails and beautiful volume. The owner's name, ’N. G. STEVENSON COPPIN ESQre", is painted on the box.
The metal box is lacquered black with gold detailing and contains the original wig stand, also made of black lacquered metal. The manufacturer's name is printed on the inside of the lid: ‘Ravenscroft Law. Wig & Robe Makers. Lincolns Inn. London’.

Ravenscroft was founded in 1689, is still in business today, and is the official supplier of dresses to Her Majesty the Queen.

Condition: Overall condition is excellent: the wig and stand are magnificent. The box shows some signs of wear on the paintwork and a few small marks and superficial scratches, but nothing serious. Overall, it is clean and well maintained, and the hinge is sturdy.
The whole thing is over 100 years old and has been used over the years, so some signs of wear are to be expected.
