"Miniature Brocaded Velvet Waistcoat Of An Elegant Man - France, Provence, Circa 1870-1890"
Circa 1870-1890, France or Provence. A precious waistcoat belonging to an elegant gentleman of the late 19th century, made of black silk velvet brocaded with miniature violet and coral motifs. It features a small shawl collar, a six-button closure in matching colors (three buttons have been replaced), and the original back is made of brown glazed cotton twill with a light brown cotton chintz lining. There are three front pockets and a distinctive metal buckle at the back. No flaws to note apart from a very slight patina on the velvet; three buttons have been replaced (see the last three photos). The waistcoat is in very good overall condition and color. Wearable today. Measurements: Equivalent to a French men's size 48-50. Front length 53 cm, shoulders 41 cm, chest 102 cm, waist 90 cm.
