Oil on canvas by Robert Breitwieser depicting a bouquet of flowers in soft hues. The flowers are arranged in a decorated ceramic pitcher, several petals of which have fallen at its base. The background is also painted in light tones, enhancing the luminous harmony of the composition. Signed lower left. Beautiful gilt frame with decorative grooves on the convex edges. On the back, two labels refer to the framer, Christian Meichler. Three square blue stamps with the letter K are affixed to both the stretcher and the canvas. A piece of paper bearing the handwritten inscription "14 Herbst assern" is glued to the canvas. Dimensions: 55 x 46 cm. Dimensions with frame: 61.5 x 70.1 cm. Robert Breitwieser was born in Mulhouse in 1899 and died in the same city in 1975. He first studied at the Mulhouse School of Drawing, then continued his artistic training at the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts, and later attended the Hoffmann Art School in Munich. Until 1927, he traveled extensively: to Paris, Sète, Greece, and Yugoslavia. He exhibited in Mulhouse, Strasbourg, and Paris, including at the Salon des Indépendants in the 1930s, as well as in Germany and Belgium, showcasing Alsatian paintings. He was a member of the Academy of Alsace in 1953 and a member of the Institute of France in 1967. His works can be seen in the museums of Mulhouse, Strasbourg, Altkirch, Colmar and Belfort.
