Red chalk drawing by Auguste Zwiller, a female nude in the spirit of Jean-Jacques Henner's "Reveries." She is lying on the ground, her face in her arms. Behind her, a landscape can be seen, including a building. Unframed. Signed lower right. Drawing dimensions: Length: 24 cm. Height: 15.4 cm. Auguste Zwiller was born in Didenheim, a small village in Alsace near Mulhouse, in 1850, and died in 1938 in Neuilly-sur-Seine. His first name was actually Marie Augustin. He studied under G. Boulanger and J. Lefebvre at the Académie Julian. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1882 and received numerous awards, including the Bronze Medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition. He exhibited at the Salon of the Society of Friends of the Arts in Strasbourg and at the Salon of the Friends of the Arts in Mulhouse. After settling in Neuilly, he pursued a career in Paris and was recognized as a renowned portraitist and a specialist in nudes. Works presented at the Museum of Fine Arts in Mulhouse, the Sundgauvien Museum in Altkirch, and the Théodore Deck Museum in Guebwiller.
