Seascape By Nicolas Evreinoff (russian, 1879-1953)

This impressionistic seascape was painted in the 1930s by Nikolai Nikolaevich Evreinov (1879 Moscow – 1953 Paris), an important Russian-French director, playwright, creator of an original theatrical theory, theater historian, philosopher, actor, musician, painter, and psychologist.
He lived in exile in France. In 1933, he participated as a painter in the Exhibition of Artists of Montmartre and Montparnasse (Paris), exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in the 1930s and 1940s, and held several solo exhibitions in Brussels galleries. Some of his seascapes have fetched high prices at auctions in France, Belgium, and Russia. On March 20, 2025, a seascape by the artist was offered for sale at Sovcom in Moscow (estimate: €7,600–€15,300). On May 24, 2012, another seascape was sold for €6,500 at The Bru Sale in Belgium (see our last two images).
