This antique Russian icon, remarkable for its style and high quality, is a typical example of the renowned Palekh school, 19th century (circa 1870-1880), oil and gold leaf on wood. It depicts the Most Holy Mother of God, Joy of All the Afflicted. Acquired from the Mikael Gallery in Strasbourg in the 1980s.

Condition: some flaking of the gilding, damage to the upper and lower right corners.
