Miniature Portrait Of A Young Lady With Red Hair By William J. Newton (british, 1785-1869)

Portrait miniature of high quality depicts British lady Mrs.Jenkins and it was executed in 1828 by famous British portrait and miniature painter Sir William John Newton (1785 London - 1869 ibid). He studied at the Royal Academy Schools from 1807. He may have been a member of a volunteer corps of artists, 1803. Newton exhibited at the R.A. and British Institute in 1808-1863. He was quite popular and had a distinguished clientele, which included many royal and titled persons, members of Parliament and fellow artists. Newton was appointed a miniature painter to William IV and Queen Adelaide in 1833 and painter to Queen Victoria, was knighted in 1837, the year of her access.

Inscription: signed and dated 1828 on the right edge in the middle; on the backside of the cover - original inscription with the name of the depicted person and info about artist.

Technique: gouache on organic wafer, original period inner gilt bronze frame and external gilt frame.

Measurements: unframed w 3 1/8" xh 3 7/8" (8 x 9,8 cm), full framed 4 1/2" x 5 1/4"(11,7 x 13,3 cm).

Condition: overal good, miniature is slightly concaved.
